Main Character Analysis

My main character, who has remained unnamed throughout the process of production, is the only character in my opening and has the video revolve around his after-work routine. In this entry, I am going to be diving in deeper on the character and talk about some different aspects of him.

Physical Characteristics/Costuming

The physical appearance of the main character will take on the looks of my brother, who is helping me with this project. The man will have glasses and short black hair, just like him. He will be dressed in work-like attire, specifically, a button up-collared shirt, work pants (khaki or black colored, we haven't decided yet), and dress shoes. He will also have different props at the beginning of the opening, only briefly though since he sets it down when he comes home, but it doesn't hurt to have. Those items will be a briefcase and a potentially a watch, if I am able to find one around the house.

Personality

The personality of my character is not something you really get to see much of in these first two minutes, especially since there is no dialogue. But, throughout the video, I hope to make it clear that he is struggling mentally and is possibly dealing with issues of loneliness and the fact that he is stuck in a job that he has no care for. If there were to be more time to this project, his personality would be something that is completely opposite from a way he might have acted in the past. For example, in the past, he could've been a very uplifting, social, and admirable person, but now that has changed, and he is very solemn, serious, and quiet. In the opener, I want to communicate the melancholic traits by possibly having the character look down the entire video to further convey his sadness (except for the final scene), or by creating a gloomy atmosphere with dim lighting or by somehow having rain in the background.

Motivations/Phycological State

As previously mentioned, the mental state of my character is not well, and he is evidently miserable with the way things are in his life. He is stuck in a job he hates, he is not surrounded by anybody, and overall wants the cycle of him going to work and coming home to eat alone, to end. He wants to make a change and return to a point in his life where he is happy with himself, but doesn't know where to start or where to go for help. I would have liked to showcase this more by having the character cry or tear up at some point in the video, but I don't think my brother has reached that level of acting yet. However, I hope that I can work with what I have to show my viewers how negative his mental state is in the film.
